Is your baby eating enough? Is your baby having enough wet and poopy diapers? Are you nursing often enough? There’s a lot to keep track of! Baby apps like the Philips uGrow Parenting App can help a lot! Whether you want an easy way to track your baby’s activity and development, get customized advice, or want 24×7 access to medical support, the Philips uGrow Parenting App has it! (and the app is FREE!)
You’ve probably heard of Philips Avent already, right? They make some of the most popular baby products. I used their bottles, sippy cups, and sterilizer going back to 2009! So it’s no surprise that I wanted to try this app out. I had high expectations and it didn’t disappoint!
I’ve used many baby apps in the 8 years I’ve been a mom. I can confidently say that this one has all the bells and whistles needed to make your first few weeks and months a bit easier. Plus it’s easy to use so you won’t be fumbling around the app confused at 2 AM trying to figure out how to log something! This post will walk you through all the features and benefits of the app so you know what to expect when you download it!
Watch the video below to see the app in action and read below for all the details!
First, what phones are supported?
You’re in luck! This app is available for iPhone and Android! I can’t tell you how often I hear of a cool new app and it’s only available on iPhone!
So what does it do?
This app is jam-packed with features but it’s super easy to use and intuitive! Within seconds, I was using the app as if I had been for months already! I group the app’s features into five main categories:
- Medical support (Telehealth) provider
- Baby activity & development tracker
- Baby milestone tracker
Let’s break them down…
1. Medical Support (Telehealth) Provider
This is what truly sets this app apart from all the “baby app” competitors and the feature that I’m most excited about! Through the Philips uGrow Parenting App, you can connect with a medical provider via video call within seconds, any time of the day or night. These telehealth visits are covered by many insurance plans or they can be paid out of pocket. If you do choose to pay out of pocket, you’ll know the exact price of the video-based visit before you even connect with the doctor!
To find out if this feature will be covered by your insurance…
Mental Health Support
Around the clock access to a medical professional or counselor is so important to parents like you and especially to moms. Postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and baby blues are REAL and so many moms experience it in some form. What’s more, there’s so much bad information out there. We still have a long way to go before those who haven’t experienced it will understand how it feels and how dangerous and real it really is.
With the Philips uGrow Parenting App, moms can get immediate access to a mental health professional and get expert advice without waiting for the doctor’s office to open. Plus (and let’s be honest), it’s really nice to be able to have the discussion in comfort of your own home and with a phone screen between you and the doctor. It’s not an easy subject to discuss and being able to do it within seconds, via video chat, is amazing. I really believe that this feature, more than any other, will be life changing for many moms.
Through the Philips uGrow Parenting App, you can also get around the clock support from a Lactation Consultant. As a mom who really wanted to breastfeed my first baby and wasn’t successful, I know just how important having quick and immediate access to lactation support is! I learned everything I could about breastfeeding and I’m proud to say that I was able to nurse my second and third baby! Having the right resources and support is so key!
When you are unsure if your baby is latched correctly, if your baby is eating enough, or want to know what to do about your engorged breasts, you really can’t wait hours for an appointment or for the office to open. You need those answers immediately. I see moms post questions in Facebook groups all the time asking for help and they often get bad or inaccurate advice. The responding moms mean well but they often are misinformed themselves!
Having immediate access to a Lactation Consultant is an absolutely amazing feature that will help so many moms who want to breastfeed succeed! Plus, even moms who choose not to breastfeed may find it useful! Some moms who choose to formula feed have trouble with engorged breasts after their baby is born. Lactation Consultants can really help these moms comfortably dry up their milk. Whether you choose to breastfeed or formula feed, Lactation Consultants can be a huge help – especially during the first few days after your baby is born!
Whether you’re a brand new mom or a mom of three like me, you’re going to have questions… lots of them! Whether you have questions about your baby’s poop color, want to know if your baby’s head is too flat, or aren’t sure how to handle feedings… you can reach out to a pediatrician within seconds and ask away!
You can also speak to a doctor about your own health! I know I talked to my doctor multiple times after coming home from the hospital even after having my 3rd baby! I often waited for hours to speak to a doctor because it was nighttime or didn’t think it was an emergency. Even when I did reach out, I often waited for hours because the doctor wasn’t available! With the Philips uGrow Parenting App, I could have spoken to a doctor immediately. That would have been so nice! I wish I had known about this app then!
2. Baby Activity and Development Tracker
This is the part of the app you will use the most often! With the Philips uGrow Parenting App, you can easily track your baby’s height and weight. You can also track when your baby eats, cries, and sleeps! What I like most, is that within the feeding section, you can track how long you breastfeed your baby (and on which side), how much your baby is drinking by bottle AND how much you pump! As a working breastfeeding mom, I love being able to track my pumping progress!
3. Baby Milestone Tracker
You can record all your baby’s firsts, photos, and notes in the app and that brings me to the fourth category…
With most baby apps, your data is hard to view. You could see your baby’s eating habits only in the eating section of the app. Not with this app! In the Philips uGrow Parenting App, you can see everything you enter into the app on the main screen of the app. You can also see a full timeline of everything you add about your baby, your pumping sessions, your photos, your notes, etc! On top of that, the app adds some great summary information, tips, and information about what to expect based on your baby’s age in the timeline view too!
There’s also a “My Data” page which is basically a report or summary view of the information you enter into the app. This lets you get a better idea of when your baby tends to sleep, eat, etc. If you’re not using a set schedule (nursing on demand for example), or want to create a schedule for your baby based on their own natural rhythm, this information will be extremely useful!
Are you nursing? This app makes it super easy for you to see if your baby is drinking enough – it puts your baby’s wet diaper information easily at your fingertips! For example, according to KellyMom.com:
Expect one wet diaper on day one, increasing to 6+ by day 4. To feel what a sufficiently wet diaper is like, pour 3 tablespoons (45 mL) of water into a clean diaper (if baby wets more often, then the amount of urine per diaper may be less). Urine should be pale and mild smelling.
The icing on the cake? You can export your data! This is a great memento or tool for you to use with your pediatrician!
For more information on how to know if your breastfed baby is getting enough milk, grab KellyMom.com’s handy reference card by clicking here. Then just use the info you record in the Philips uGrow Parenting App to see if they are getting enough!
This app is great! Doesn’t that just about sum it up? But seriously… This app has everything a new mom or veteran mom could need! From easy 24×7 access to a doctor, mental health counselor or lactation consultant, to an easy and useful way to record your baby’s habits and milestones!
It’s free so I highly recommend trying it out for yourself. What do you have to lose? Plus, then you’ll have live help at your fingertips just in case you need it!
