If you’re familiar with the Create Room furniture line, including the Create Room Dreambox, let me introduce you to another amazing piece of Createroom furniture – the Create Room Cubby. And if you’re new, be sure to read the rest of my Dreambox reviews!
I’ve had the Dreambox for a long time but my craft supply collection has grown and I needed more storage. The Create Room Cubby has become the best addition to my craft room / office / studio in a long time!
It helps me organize my craft space by giving us a dedicated spot to keep the kids’ hobby materials separate from my crafting stuff.
But while it’s great for making craft rooms neat, you can also use it without a Dreambox to add organization to bedrooms, offices, and basically any space in your home.
Check out all the awesome versatility of the Create Room cubby with this ultimate review. And if you want to get your own cubby, I have a discount code for you!
What is the Create Room Cubby?
Dreambox owners rave about the incredible storage and versatility of using a Dreambox to organize their craft room or office space.
A Create Room Dreambox can be the perfect choice if you need an insane amount of storage with an integrated table that can also easily completely fold up and fit in a corner when not in use.
So check out my Createroom Dreambox review and snag your discount coupon if that sounds like what you’re looking for!
If you’re looking for less storage, something smaller, don’t need a table, or something cheaper, then the Cubby is for you! In fact, many Dreambox owners like me, also get a cubby for additional storage!
The Create Room Cubby adds the same incredible storage in a smaller silhouette. These cubbies have multiple “drawers” in various sizes. And you can choose from two types of drawers – InView Totes or DiviDrawers.
And an even cooler feature of these classy storage cubbies is that you can stack them vertically or horizontally. Being able to arrange them in different orientations allows you to create a storage solution that continues to meet your organizational needs.

Why I love my Create Room Cubby
I’m a bit of a Create Room fan… and that’s probably an understatement! I have a Dreambox, Dreamcarts, the side tables, multiple accessories and now the Cubby!
So with all that… why did I need the Cubby?
It’s simple! I decided it was time for my kids to have a more dedicated space for their craft supplies! I also decided to add my sewing machine to my Dreambox and now use the Cubby to hold my Cricut Maker!
I love that the Cubby uses many of the same pieces and parts as my Dreambox and DreamCarts. When I was reorganizing my stuff, I simply moved their totes from the Dreambox to the Cubby!
I put my craft supplies in my Dreambox, my office supplies in my Dreamcart, and my kids arts and craft supplies in the Cubby! At one time I had all three in my Dreambox and that worked great but then I picked up a few more hobbies and needed more space!
So if you need some additional craft or office storage space, want a dedicated spot for something, or just want a Create Room product to enjoy while you save up for a Dreambox, then the Cubby might be right for you!
What Comes in the Create Room Cubby Box?
The Create Room Cubby arrives at your home in two separate boxes. Once you get a screwdriver, you’ll have everything you need to assemble your storage shelf.
One box has a cubby, screws, and shelves. And the other box has the “drawers” – the new Create Room DiviDrawers or origional InView totes.
Don’t worry if you don’t have much experience assembling furniture, as it’s pretty straightforward to put everything together.
Should You Get the DiviDrawers or the InView Totes?
The 15″ deep by 28″ long by 28.5″ tall Createroom Cubby gives you two options – The DiviDrawers and the InView Totes.
Here are some of the main differences between the two:
DiviDrawers
- The DiviDrawers have have perfectly straight sides (not angled) so they are more space efficient.
- They also come with one clear side and one colored side so that you can easily choose between a solid color, or clear facing options.
- You can also add custom “covers” to the clear side that you make with plain cardstock to decorate them even more! The DiviDrawers have a nifty slot for your cover to slide in!
- Additionally, the DiviDrawers have tons of dividers so you can break up each drawer into little components to store all sorts of small stuff or just organize your things better! Lastly the DiviDrawers are really sturdy as compared to the InView Totes.
- The DiviDrawers come with 8 medium DiviDrawer, 7 large DiviDrawers. You can also buy XL DiviDrawers and add them if you want (I use one XL DiviDrawer in my Cubby).
- The DiviDrawers are so popular that they often sell out. So they can be hard to get.
InView Totes
- The InView Totes are completely clear and have angled sides.
- They also don’t have a slot for the tote covers so if you want to make some (which I talk about here) you absolutely can! You’ll just need to use glue dots to hold them in place.
- The InView Totes also have dividers for some containers but not as many and they aren’t as sturdy.
- The InView totes come in 2 sizes for the Cubby – the medium and large.
The DiviDrawers are definitely a better choice if you are trying to contain many small items. The reason is that the dividers allow you to create multiple sections in the same drawer. They are also a better choice if you really like clean lines, want to use every inch of your cubby, or definitely want to add custom liners!

The InView totes are going to be a better option for you if you definitely want to see what’s in your totes because they are 100% clear or are on a tighter budget because they are less expensive.
How to Set Up the Create Room Cubby
Setting up the Create Room Cubby is super easy! It’s only 6 pieces! With your Cubby, you’ll get an instruction packet that will walk you through every step!
As I put it together, If you struggle getting any piece to fit, just chec the instructions again carefully because they all connect smoothly when assembled correctly.
Check out this video I made demonstrating the process of full CreateRoom cubby assembly.
Once you have it assembled, the next step is to add your tote tracks, shelves, and drawers. Not to worry though – the Cubby is as modular as the Dream box! So if you ever decide you don’t like the placement of something, you can quickly change it up. Honestly, I change mine up all the time!
If you’re an OG Dreambox owner you may be new to the Tote Tracks! A few years ago, the Create Room products came with little pegs instead of Tote Tracks but now everything comes with them and they’re amazing!
Check out this post I wrote about the tote tracks when they first came out or watch this video about using tote tracks to learn more.
Setting Up the Create Room Cubby with DiviDrawers
You must assemble the containers after unpacking if you are using the DiviDrawers with your Create Cubby. These drawers ship packaged flat and arrive with a Createroom mallet that you will need to connect the pieces.
I’ve found so many amazing uses for my little mallet since assembling my DiviDrawers the first time!
Just mentally set aside time to put your drawers together. I recommend putting them together BEFORE your Cubby because you’re going to want to fill it up as soon as the cubby is assembled! This way you won’t have to wait!
How to Make Insert Cover Cards for the DiviDrawers
The 90-degree angles and clear faceplate slats along the fronts of the drawers make it easy to give your DiviDrawers a custom look that you can change on a whim or for each holiday!
I offer a set of SVG images variously sized to fit into the faceplates a the front of the DiviDrawers or to work as a drawer liner.

Don’t have a cutting machine? No problem! I share the dimensions here so you can cut them by hand!
How to Make Tote Covers for the InView Totes
Tote covers are great way to decorate your clear totes. But tote liners can also help your boxes stay neat and look clean and let’s face it – it’s so fun to change them up for the holidays and seasons!
Just head to this post and grab my instructions and templates to make yours!
What Can You Store in the Create Room Cubby?
The compact size of a Create Room cubby is deceptive in its organizational capabilities. Thanks to the different sizes and shapes of the drawers, how modular it is, and all the dividers you get – you can store almost anything in it!
Here are a few examples of what you can store in the Cubby!
- Vinyl rolls
- Crochet materials
- Fabric fat quarters
- 12″ x12″ cardstock
- Pom Pom crafts
- Pipe cleaners
- Origami Paper
- Paint and paint brushes
- Perler Beads
- Crayons, Markers etc.
- Sublimation Blanks
- Stamps
- Glues and Glue Dots
- and so much more!
The top of the Create Room Cubby is the perfect place to store your Cricut machines or Sewing Machine, and the sides are great for hanging your Cricut Mats (just attach command hooks!).
But if you’re not using your cubby for crafts, there’s still plenty of stuff you can store inside. It’s excellent for organizing kids’ toys, offices, garages, and bedrooms.
There is no limit to how you use your cubby container to keep your home organized. And because they are compact and interchangeable, you can combine multiple cubbies for a large family organizer that only takes up a little floor space.
How I’ve Organized my Create Room Cubby
There are plenty of things you can do with a Create Room cubby. It can serve as stand-alone storage or pair with other cubbies or your Dreambox to create an efficient, neat craft room.
Personally, I lost ownership of my cubby, but it was a worthy sacrifice. Once upon a time, my Dreambox was full of various crafts that belonged to my kids and me. But, alas, my crafting addiction – hobby – has expanded to encompass new projects, so I needed my space back!
It seemed logical to evict the materials the kids use for their fun crafts to their own homes, leaving all of my stuff restrained – and hidden – in my pro box. And with all the different storage containers, there was enough room for all the crafting chaos – lanyards, beads, origami paper, activity books, paint, pom poms, pipe cleaners, and stickers.
