You recently had your baby and you may still be wearing some maternity clothes and now you need to go back to work… What do you wear?!!! Your maternity clothes don’t fit right now but your pre-baby clothes don’t fit either. It’s a dilemma that so many of us have faced and I’ve been there three times! That’s why I am here to share with you my back-to-work clothes after baby. You are going to fall in love with these postpartum fashion clothing ideas!
Want a good laugh? I was NOT prepared when I had my first baby. I didn’t have friends with babies and the women in my family never warned me (and this was before “Mommy FB groups!”) so I didn’t know…. I had my baby and then tried to put on my pre-pregnancy clothes. Like the next day. No joke! HAHAHA You know how well that probably worked out for me! There may have also been tears….
When it was time to go back to work, I still couldn’t wear my pre-baby clothes and went out to buy a whole bunch of new clothes that I couldn’t wear after I lost most of the weight.
By the time that I had my third baby, I knew better! While I was on maternity leave, I wore my maternity leggings nearly every day. Then when it was time to go back to work, I had a plan!
Leggings were comfortable and stretchy. I’m all for embracing my new body – I mean it did give birth to three kids! – but I also needed to look presentable at work and feel confident. I work in an office environment as an Executive Director so I couldn’t go to work in loungewear but I could wear the next best thing!

Why I love Betabrand Dress Pants and Yoga Pants
“(BETABRAND comes on set)” haha!
That’s right! I turned to Betabrand and I’ve raved about it to everyone ever since. (Note: This post has been sponsored by Betabrand but all opinions are my own. I was so excited when they agreed to sponsor it!)
Betabrand makes lots of innovative customer-designed clothes but what I love the most is their “Dress Pant Yoga Pants” (DPYP). They are exactly what they sound like! They are stretchy yoga-like and legging-like pants that are designed to look just like your typical dressy work-appropriate pants!
They also come in lots of styles:
So whatever your preference and your shape, you’ll find the perfect one for you! I think I have every type! I even have their “Straight leg jeans” which are great for casual Fridays!

If you’re a skeptic like me, you might be thinking…. “This sounds like jeggings” or “I’ve seen pants like this from other brands.” I thought the same thing so after I tried my first pair of Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants, I went out to look for other brands that made similar pants and boy was that a waste of money!
Why are Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants the best?
Simple!
For starters, most cuts have a “faux” zipper in the front and “faux” pockets. This means that they truly look like regular pants BUT there is no awkward bulging under your shirt and no zipper or seems to dig into you when you sit (which I found common with my immediate-post-baby-pooch. These slip on and off just like regular leggings and yoga pants!
They have great stretch but don’t get too lose during the day! The alternate brands I tried got loose during the day (especially in the crotch) and would sag by the end of the day! Nothing is worse than feeling like you need to pull your pants up while walking around at work!
The material has just the right amount of thickness so that you can wear your comfortable panties without any awkward lines! Who wants to wear a thong just weeks after having a baby?!! Not me!
The stretch is really forgiving! I could wear the same size 3 months after my baby was born as I can wear 1 year or more after so they will save you lots of money! You won’t be buying “transition” pants. These are pants you can wear even if you decide to lose all the baby weight!
How do you style Dress Pant Yoga Pants for work?
Ready to try them out but unsure how to style them? I felt the same way. After all, they are pretty form fitting so I wanted to make sure that they’d still be professional looking.
I found that pairing them with a jacket or a loose top works great! Plus, the jacket helped me hide my waist! I lost so much muscle tone in my stomach that my stomach seemed to go from “ok” to 6 months pregnant by the afternoon! It hurt my confidence so I wanted to be able to hide it and a jacket works great!
Here are some great ways to style your Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants for work that will work great when you first go back to work AND a year or more later!
All you need is a simple shirt, a jacket, and some flats or chunky heels! (Chunky heels are so much easier to walk in for the first year in my opinion and I LOVE heels!)
Cropped Pants and a Jacket
Straight Leg Jeans and a Jacket
Skinny Leg with a Jacket
Straight Leg Twill Pants and a Top
Did you notice something about my outfits? I LOVE to stick with black and white (plus the occasional jeans). I love to do this because it will ALWAYS match and I can get dressed in the dark even if I haven’t slept all night and can barely open my eyes! If I want a pop of color, I add it with belts, the occasional colored shoe, or jewelry!
Skinny Leg with a Purple Jacket
Which outfit is your favorite? Got any other ideas? I’d love to hear them!
