Is smoother skin, fewer wrinkles and dermatologist quality microdermabrasion really possible from home? Is it really worth the cost? Is it safe? Read this PMD Microdermabrasion product review to find out if it’s worth all the hype!
I met the folks at PMD and learned that you can do microdermabrasion yourself at home! They sent me a Classic PMD Device and I love it! This post is an honest review of this product.
Do you ever find yourself looking a little too closely at your skin and thinking “OMG?!”. It can’t just be me…please tell me it’s not! Okay well, if you ARE like me, you’ll want to read on!
My skin can be super temperamental. Sometimes it’s 100% acne free and seems nice and smooth… other times my hormones just go haywire and I don’t know what to do!
Overall, I used to be happy with my skin but then I turned 30. Since then I have definitely noticed more pores and overall, my skin has become more rough.
I have tried scrubs, exfoliating cleansers, and even at home peels! While scrubs and exfoliating cleansers sure feel nice right afterwards, they rarely seem to have much of an impact.
They’re just too gentle. Peels work great if you’re comfortable doing that at home yourself.
The biggest problem with peels is that (1) they can be painful, (2) you CAN burn yourself and (3) you DEFINITELY don’t want to use them while pregnant or breastfeeding!
One option that I had not tried until recently was microdermabrasion. The reason for this is simple… it’s expensive and time consuming!
As a mom of two, I can’t make the time to go to the dermatologist or spa once a month to have microdermabrasion done – nor can I afford it!
So what is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is the process of removing a very thin layer of the very top layer of your skin. It’s just enough to trigger your skin to grow new skin.
Within just a couple days, you’ll notice your skin is softer, smoother, and more radiant than it had been before! Overtime it can even get rid of scars, reduce pore size and more.
When you get it done at the dermatologist office, they will use a machine that sprays crystals onto your skin to essentially scrub off the skin.
The PMD Classic Device works a bit differently but accomplishes the same thing. Their machine has a spinning disc covered in crystals that you pass over your skin.
The machine also has a suction effect so that it pulls your skin tight against the disk, but also sucks up any dead skin cells.
The Pros and Cons of the PMD at-home Microdermabrasion?
Pros:
- You can use it at home! That’s a huge benefit for me!
- The cost is very reasonable! The cost of microdermabrasion at the dermatologist ranges from $75-$200 per session. The PMD Device costs just $159 and it comes with multiple discs at different strengths. Each disc can be used at least 3-4 times. You can also buy 6 replacement discs for just $20! That is a HUGE savings as compared to microdermabrasion performed at the dermatologist’s office! (Plus, the set of discs that come with the device range in strength so that you can increase the strength as you get used to the device until you find the right strength for your skin!).
- The device comes with two sets of parts – one set to use on your skin and one set to use on your body! (I didn’t event think of this but I love having both!It is super easy to use! It’s practically fool proof! Plug it in, turn it on, pull your skin taught with one hand and then pass the machine over your skin quickly with your other hand! Simple as that! (The device also comes with an instruction card in case you need more info – but it’s really that simple!)
- It’s easy to clean! The top, disc, and filter come off easily so cleaning is a breeze!)
Cons:
It can be a bit alarming the first time! The suction sensation can be a bit scary at first but after the first few sweeps you will get used to it!
Test it out on your arm first as the instructions say and you’ll see that it’s easy to use!

My final thoughts of pmd microdermabrasion?
I have used the PMD device 3 times now and I can definitely see a huge improvement already! It’s not quite enough to show up on camera just yet but whenever I look in the mirror a bit too closely, I can definitely see that my pores are much improved! My skin feels softer too!
Even after just my first use, my skin felt better and I didn’t need as much makeup the next day to get the same affect!
The price is great and I didn’t have to go anywhere! That means that I can be consistent about using it which means that I’ll continue to get great results and my skin will look even better in a few months! I can’t wait to see how my skin looks in a few months!
